History

More than 120 years of industrial history and architectural heritage

The Volta Quarter takes its name from the Volta factory, which began operating on Tööstuse Street as early as 1899. For more than 100 years, the Volta factory produced electric engines, generators, and even submarines and military equipment, but has now scaled back to make room for Northern Tallinn’s future centre of attraction.
